Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) research. Actions that can be taken to mitigate the risk from CBRN materials are:
To gain an understanding of hazard and consequences, including analysis of physical evidence at the appropriate standard to enable its exploitation, including support to criminal proceedings.
To reduce the likelihood of a CBRN release by deterring adversaries, preventing supply, disrupting or disabling offensive CBRN capabilities, eliminating existing CBRN stockpiles and programmes, and ensuring adherence to chemical and biological warfare (CBW) counter-proliferation treaties.
To reduce the impact of a CBRN release by detecting or diagnosing, providing physical protection and treatment, and an ability to manage the hazard.
